Recreating The House That Built Me

When I was about 10 years old, my parents built their first house.  It’s a modular home, meaning it was constructed by a building company offsite & then transported to their property.  From start to finish, it only took about 6 weeks to complete.

Now, all these years later, it’s our turn to get into some permanent housing.  We’ve been searching the real estate listings to no avail & have even considered building our own home.  I own land next to my parents, so building is definitely an option.

Then, I found it.

I was casually browsing a house plan website when I came across an exact replica of my parents’ house.
Well, the replica before they made any changes.

Here’s how their floor plan looks now:

& here’s how it was originally presented to them before they made changes:

One of their biggest house regrets was taking out the master bath.  It just wasn’t in their budget at the time.
Other customizations included:  taking out the closets in the den & that funky hallway closet, omitting the fireplace & taking out that little entry hallway.

Anyway, I thought it could be an awesome idea to build an eerily similar house next to the one I grew up in.   You know those neighborhoods where there’s like 50 of the same house right next to each other?  I could get it going right in my own neighborhood!  So it would only be 2 houses instead of 50, but still cool nonetheless.

I’m pretty set in stone with this idea, so now the money saving begins!

  1. Wow, that is so awesome that you own land and have this option! Its really cute on the outside, so why not copy? I say this is an awesome idea :)

How similar are you going to go with the original floor plans?

    1. I think I want to go with the original floor plan before they made any changes. I totally need that second bathroom! I would definitely take out that hallway closet, though. Also, my house plan would have to be reversed because my driveway is on the opposite side.
